How To : Phoebe Tonkin's ELLE cover

To me, there is nothing sexier than a girl with hair that’s wild and free. And really, that’s Phoebe in a nutshell. Phoebe is the embodiment of an ELLEgirl; she’s funny, sprightly and fresh. So I wanted her hair to be her own, to look natural, but still have a little spunk. We did a kind of tousled wave; part slept in, part sexy, part relaxed.

The shoot was so LA; lots of vivid pinks and aquamarine. It was just perfect for Phoebe because she really is just so bright-eyed and confident. I love her energy; I love her striking bone structure and her arrestingly beautiful brown eyes – did I mention she has the best head of hair? And she is hilarious! We had so much fun together that day!

To get Phoebe’s ELLE look I worked closely with Cloud Nine to get the best modern bed hair possible. Here is my step-by-step guide.

Renya Xydis, as told to

Wash and towel dry hair. Apply a small amount of product like WELLA SP Luxe Oil to hydrate the hair and smooth the follicle. Comb with a wide toothed comb.

Blow Dry the hair roughly, using your fingers to lift from the root, creating texture and volume.

Holding the CLOUD NINE Large Wand vertically to the hair, wrap random sections of hair in varying amounts around the wand. Make sure to only curl from the mid lengths to the ends – you don’t want the waves and texture to start until its level with the ears, downwards.

Comb through the hair to breakup the waves. Tip your head upside down and give the hair a good shake to add movement and volume.
